You’ll be introduced to two types of harnesses – driving and working- for you to become familiar with. After learning the names of the different parts, their functions and how to check them you'll have a go putting them on a horse. Learn their different roles when they’re attached to a cart or harrow. You’ll then get to meet the ponies, prepping them with a brush down and foot check before harnessing. Have a go driving a pony around an obstacle course or using a harrow.

These are based at the beautiful Moonfleet Farm Camping - wether you're doing one or two days of harnessing, make the most of your visit to in Central Dorset AONB and stay in one of the shepherd's huts or camp here.

H&C
Own a Pony

The first job of the day is to ensure the ponies are fed, so you’ll go around the track or paddocks laying out hay.  Next, it’s time for some paddock clearance and maintenance, involving learning to identify safe plants and how to remove unsafe ones. You’ll then be introduced to some essential items, including various kinds of head collar and lead rope, how to use them and ensure they are put on the pony correctly. You’ll go through the different kinds of brushes and their functions, as well as how to safely pick up and pick out a pony’s foot. Learn about hoof structure and the different feeds before mixing one for your pony. Using your newly acquired knowledge, take feeds and head collars to bring your pony in. You’ll feed, brush, pick out feet and any other TLC as needed. We’ll show you how to get your pony doing warm up stretches, how to exercise them and cool them down. It will then be time to turn them back to the paddocks and say goodbye.

This is hosted opposite our paddocks in the gorgeous  Thimble Inn - they have the MOST fantastic local food cooked to perfection by Michal and a gin menu that will have you going back for seconds, thirds...

Ideal for groups

Equine Facilitated Learning is increasingly becoming recognised as a way of reconnecting to our core selves - the ponies will reflect low or excessive energy back to us, allowing us to adapt in real time and practice holding a positive, focused energy and intention. To compliment this learning, we also provide a selection of activities from which participants can opt in or out:

  • Map reading - an introduction to map reading, theory and practical to support increased time in the countryside.

  • Foraging for horses - learn to identify and pick the healthy treats ponies crave.

  • Art with the ponies - we have a number of interactive and individual art activities designed to connect you with your pony or immerse you in the countryside.

  • Supported focus activities - we provide a prompt, such as a view finder, poem or sketch, and provide the resources to inspire you to create your own.

Picnic provided by the wonderful Saddle Street Farm.

Our Wellbeing days are hosted here for good reason; the old farm is an absolute rural idyll- by separate booking you can stay in the gorgeous Chalet or Studio and access all that Saddle Street has to offer - it's owned and managed by Hannah Lovegrove – Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher & trainer, massage & skin care therapist, anatomy & nutritional health specialist, horse whisperer, gardener, cook and all round holistic health guru.
